The Multicultural Performance Festival – AUCSA
The Multicultural Performance Festival celebrates diverse performance talent with a program including dancing, singing, drama, piano and more. The event is hosted by the Adelaide University Chinese Student Association (AUCSA), whose members worked hard for months to present the celebration.
Their hard work has paid off with a fantastic event that provides international students with an opportunity to showcase their culture to their new friends in Adelaide.
What did this year’s event involve?
This year was the 4th annual event, and we presented performances from many of the countries that Adelaide’s international students call home. Our event was held at the Adelaide Town Hall with special guests including the Lord Mayor of Adelaide, the Hon Jing Lee, the Hon Martin Hamilton-Smith and the Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China in Adelaide.
We had an audience of over 1,000 people which is double our previous event. The event was attended by university, industry and government representatives as well as international and domestic students from across Adelaide, and the general public.
What inspires your club to host the Multicultural Performance Festival each year?
The event is all about celebrating all the cultures that our international students come from. It’s about increasing understanding and exposing people to a new culture, or to see their own culture from a different point of view.
For students who are new to studying in Adelaide, it’s an opportunity to come together, meet new friends and become part of a wider group of students from all around the world.
Every year we strive to make the event bigger and better. We learn from each year to improve and make the event stronger with new performances. Above all, we want to ensure we present a big celebration. A party for all to enjoy.
Who’s involved in organising the events?
The whole AUCSA team is involved led by me as the President and by Deputy, Sima Qing. We have over 40 student members and volunteers pitching in to organise performers, sponsorship, logistics, publicity and more.
Describe what being receiving this award means to your association/AUCSA
We are so proud to receive this award. Our event is a true success of teamwork. It takes many months to prepare for the festival, and we all juggle our study and work to make sure we can give the time needed to bring the event to life. This award is for our whole group, and we are very happy for the honour.
