The world's second largest copper mine meets the world's largest battery in South Australia, at the forefront of resources and energy production in Australia.

South Australia is blessed with rich natural assets headlined by significant deposits of copper, gold, iron ore, graphite, and petroleum. The state is broadening its energy sector into batteries, thermal storage, hydrogen storage and pumped water storage in disused mine pits. As global demand for resources rises, so does the need for a skilled workforce in engineering, geoscience, renewable energies and related specialties.

South Australia is leading the nation in the uptake of renewable energy. Currently, 53 per cent of the state's energy production comes from renewable sources. This commitment to clean energy has resulted in more than $7 billion invested in renewable energy projects. The state is a leader in home battery development and has attracted investments from leading global solar and home battery developers including sonnen and Eguana Technologies. South Australia is also home to the world's largest battery, installed by Tesla.

Adelaide is home to several teaching and research facilities specialising in resources and energy. TAFE SA, South Australia’s largest vocational education and training (VET) provider, has established the Onshore Petroleum Centre of Excellence. This state-of-the-art training facility provides an immersive simulated oil and gas production environment, where students learn skills needed by the world’s leading oil and gas companies.

If you want to study in resources and energy, Adelaide offers a range of choices in areas such as engineering, geospatial science, carbon management, environmental management, sustainability, policy development and more.
