Australian Government Scholarships

The Australian Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), offers around 3,000 scholarships each year to individuals from over 55 developing countries around the world.

The Australia Award Scholarships provide opportunities to citizens of participating countries from Asia, the Pacific, the Middle East and Africa for full-time undergraduate or postgraduate study at Australian institutions.

Opening Dates

Opening and closing dates for the Australia Awards Scholarships generally open in February and close at the end of April, with the exception of Africa (for Masters study) which opens in September and closes in December each year. Click here for the opening and closing dates on the DFAT website. The next intake period will be for studies commencing in 2024.

Eligible Countries

The Australia Awards are only open to applicants from a set list of countries and there are country-specific eligibility criteria. The list may change from time to time, so it is best to refer to the participating countries on the DFAT website. Here is a list of the current eligible countries:
