Your Year 12 study will build on the skills and strategies you developed in Year 11, and bridge that important gap to tertiary study.
With our lecture/tutorial model – something you’ll discover at University – you’ll benefit from learning that is focussed, interactive, motivating and enjoyable. Your teachers will supervise your study and give you personal help when you need it. You’ll continue the self-directed study that was part of your Year 11 focus, further building your self-reliance and independent learning that will be crucial for success at Uni.
You’ll have two one-hour lectures for many subjects per week, delivered in lecture theatres on The University of Adelaide campus. Our specialist teachers will deliver interactive lectures that bring together innovation and challenge; the best of established teaching and today’s technology.
You’ll also have one two-hour tutorial for each subject per week, delivered in small groups. You’ll learn collaboration through discussion and debate, not only preparing you for a University career but also your chosen career beyond it. Subjects that don't require a lecture will have two two-hour tutorials per week.
The USC school day begins at 8.00am and on most days ends at 5.00pm. This extended day has the benefit of a flexible timetable structure, based upon two hour blocks.
Curriculum
It’s one thing to complete Year 12. It’s another thing to be prepared for the university course you’re aiming for.
Because of our partnership with The University of Adelaide, we know that you’ll need experience with effective communication – written and verbal – and deductive thinking to succeed in tertiary study. That’s why we encourage our students to take at least one language-rich subject and at least one quantitative experimental subject in Year 12.
You will generally undertake five subjects at Year 12. This might seem counterintuitive to getting a high ATAR, but we know this will better prepare you for the intense study required to succeed at university. We’ve seen years of USC graduates flourish at University because of their high academic aspirations and how they’ve used Year 12 to prepare for it.
This is an important focus in Year 12, and you will have a one-on-one meeting with the Recruitment Officer at The University of Adelaide, to talk about the courses you’re interested in, and how you can get there.
